Today, International SOS announces its partnership with Occu-Med, a nationally recognised leader in medical evaluations for employment, to allow its clients centralised access to MOD-14, the fitness review for minimum standards for United States Central Command (CENTCOM) deployment.

MOD-14 is the medical screening assessment required for Department of Defence uniformed service members, civilian personnel and contractors. It accounts for physical and psychological challenges by ensuring all deployed CENTCOM personnel meet a minimum standard of fitness, including guidelines from mental fitness to body mass index to diabetes.

“The MOD-14 evaluation criteria are constantly changing”, said Karel van de Pijpekamp, CEO, Assistance Services Americas, at International SOS. “Through this partnership with Occu-Med, International SOS will now offer a seamless process for those in need of medical screenings to continue the important work in the government sector. By leveraging our global footprint of clinics and vetted providers, government contractors also have the option of having these assessments done locally in theatre, which greatly reduces loss time and ensures business continuity. Our technology ensures an ease of scheduling these assessments globally and end-to-end visibility of test results for transparency and reporting purposes.”

According to an October 2019 Department of Defence report, there are roughly 21,000 U.S. EXPAT contractors currently in the USCENTCOM AOR alone, all of which are required to take an annual MOD exam. Additionally, more than 10,000 pre-deployment MOD exams are distributed yearly as a result of deployed personnel attrition.

“Occu-Med and International SOS’ respective service offerings create an incredible end-to-end solution that we are excited to bring to our customers and the market at large,” said Jim Johnson, President and CEO of Occu-Med. “More importantly, we found early on in our discussions that our company cultures are remarkably compatible. This finding cemented our confidence in the relationship and resulted in a swift and enjoyable teaming process.”

Occu-Med, which has performed at least 10,000 MOD exams since 2006, has been a trailblazer in the applicant-job assessment category since 1979 and its proprietary, applicant-job compatibility assessment considers medical, legal and job-demand aspects, assuring that candidates are authentically ready for placement or deployment. Employers planning to send employees overseas to work for the Department of Defence or Department of State need to know quickly if candidates meet the medical requirements needed to do the job. Occu-Med assures all requirements are met and all immunisations are up-to-date through its 15,000-site Medical Network.

International SOS will begin offering centralised access to MOD-14 to its clients starting January 2020. For more information on the partnership and services email Ryan Clark at ryan.clark@internationalsos.com
